California BrainWaves: Transformative Achievements

​

1. Holistic Support Systems Built for All Ages and Stages

  • Designed and implemented programs tailored to individuals with brain conditions and developmental disabilities, as well as their loved ones, caregivers, and siblings.

  • Focused on fostering inclusive environments where every individual can thrive and contribute to their community.
     

2. Advocacy for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

  • Actively de-stigmatized brain conditions through awareness campaigns, educational events, and collaborations with local and state organizations.

  • Launched community-wide campaigns to de-stigmatize brain conditions, promoting understanding, acceptance, and inclusion across all societal levels.

  • Collaborated with local libraries, schools, businesses, nonprofits, support groups, and organizations for outreach and to host community events, highlighting the strengths and contributions of people with brain disorders, developmental disabilities, and mental health diagnoses.
     

3. Empowered Caregivers and Strengthened Families

  • Rolled out the Caregiver’s Program, equipping caregivers with essential tools, emotional support, and access to specialized resources

  • Hosting in-person and virtual caregiver support groups, led by women of color who are licensed and certified

  • Hosting Donuts with Dads to provide father-specific supports

  • Providing free phone consultations and text support to supply specific resources per family that calls/emails/texts California BrainWaves directly

  • Addressing caregiver burnout by offering a caregiver retreat co-hosted with a licensed marriage family therapist
     

4. Creativity Meets Therapy: The Healing Arts Program

  • Introduced an arts-based program to foster inclusion, break stigma, have a fun date night/family activity/friends get-together/solo experience, encourage self-expression and reflection

  • Hosted a free monthly art/craft swap in 2023 and 2025

  • Provided the following art activities at community events: adult coloring, kid coloring, crafting table for all ages, create your own vision board for all ages,

  • California BrainWaves Healing Arts Program participates in Cards for Kindness campaign that spreads hope, cheer, joy to those who are isolated

  • Partnered with Daniel Grissom's Kids Cartoon Academy to provide online art tutorials for students of all abilities

  • Partnered with Sustain Tahoe for sustainability art and music lessons for students of all abilities, focusing on Earth Walks

  • Partnered with Generation Music and Arts for local community events and fundraisers

  • Sensory activities are set up at the Healing Arts Events to foster engagement
     

5. Pioneering the 7H20 Therapeutic Campus Model

  • Designed the visionary 7H20 therapeutic campus, which integrates housing, employment, education, and recreation into a single, inclusive space.

  • Grew worldwide network to position the 7H20 campus as a social franchise model.

  • Focus on racial-bias care and being the change we wish to see in the world by providing a wide range of medical and wellness care, with focus on the individual's cultural needs, personal beliefs, and right to choose what is right for them, in a safe, nurturing, affirming environment.
     

6. Community Presence and Engagement

  • Actively participated in local events such as the San Leandro Cherry Festival, with over 20,000 people in attendance, connecting with community members and raising awareness about the organization's mission.

  • Hosted free community events and support groups for families navigating brain conditions.

  • California BrainWaves Team spoke two years in a row at the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics in LA.
     

7. Resource Connector for Families

  • Successfully linked families to essential services, including:

    • IEP/504 Plan Supports

    • Online and in-person support groups

    • Our Legal Referral Network

    • Job training and placement for neurodivergent individuals

    • Referrals to specialized healthcare providers and therapeutic services
       

8. Strategic Partnerships for Broader Impact

  • Partnered with local and regional organizations, including nonprofits, schools, and medical providers, to expand the reach and depth of support services.

  • Established collaborative relationships with city officials and community leaders to drive policy changes benefiting neurodivergent populations.
     

9. Raising Awareness with Real Impact

  • Educated hundreds of people on the prevalence and challenges of brain conditions, emphasizing solutions and opportunities for individuals with neurological and developmental disabilities.

  • Distributed practical, actionable resources to families at critical points in their journeys.
     

10. Driving Funding Through Successful Campaigns

  • Organized impactful fundraising initiatives that raised critical funds for operational growth and program development.

  • Secured foundational donors and built a strong base of community support for ongoing projects.
     

11. Advocacy for Research and Innovation

  • Championed cutting-edge neuroscience research.

  • Advocated for staff, caregivers, loved ones, siblings to be part of the care equation and medical/educational/housing programs to prevent separation, isolation, burn out, abuse, trauma, loss of resources and care. 

  • Advocated for research into better treatments and solutions for neurological and developmental conditions.

  • Addressing racism in the medical care system and beyond.

  • Building a passionate and skilled leadership team committed to advancing California BrainWaves' mission.
